UA Robotics was founded in 2015 by Upper Arlington High School alum, Katie Kang. Katie came to her physics teacher, Mr. Curt Bixel, with the goal of forming an after-school club where students could work on robotics-related endeavors, and enter in local battlebots competitions. Since 2015, we have expanded to over 30 club members, and have continuously fostered a program of excellence in the central Ohio region. In addition to providing excellent outreach opportunities within our community, and in the Upper Arlington school district, we have performed impressively at various local tournaments, securing a variety of titles. Our members have moved on to pursue academic distinctions - Katie Kang now studies Computer Science at the University of California - Berkeley, and Robotics alum Jesse Zhu is currently studying at Cornell University.

UAHS Robotics is building a foundation for students, encouraging them to reach higher and achieve excellence both in and out of the classroom.

"Being involved in this process of
building a robot - from
sketching
chassis ideas
, to shredding blocks of
wood in the battle cage
- it's all taught
me so much about
creativity,
commitment, and perseverance. It's
truly an invaluable experience."

Fom robotic arms and synchronized arduino projects, to destructive battlebots, all of the projects we create in Robotics Club are self-funded. Team members donate up to $100 in order to pay for tools, materials, and parts — motor controllers, gearboxes, batteries, etc. Because most robots cost upwards of $1000, we are constantly looking for new ways to fundraise and find sponsors.

Our outreach program consists of several STEM-related endeavors in our community.

  • AFTER SCHOOL OUTREACH: We are currently working with elementary schools in the Upper Arlington school district to provide after-school educational programs about VEX robotics, LEGO Mindstorm, and Dot and Dash programming

  • CAMPS & WORKSHOPS: Every year, we hold a STEM camp for kids grades K-8, featuring a variety of activities such as BattleBots dissection, programming arduinos, designing Boe Bots. These workshops are a great opportunity for us to attract attention to our club while promoting interest in engineering throughout the community

Below is information about our yearly weekend workshop, Mr. Bix's Robo Trix.

COMING UP:

 Mr. Bix's Robo Trix - June 29-30, 2019

The Upper Arlington High School Robotics Club is proud to present our yearly fundraiser, Mr. Bix’s Robo Trix: a robotics workshop for kids grades 5-8 in the Columbus area. This event aims to provide an immersive experience for our campers and introduce them to the science and technology of the future. Students will be able to build a VEX robot, fly drones, fight with our battlebots, AND MUCH MORE!
